12日の小諸からの帰途、高速道路脇の「富岡製糸場を世界遺産に」と大書きした看板が目についた。ちょっと寄り道して富岡ICから富岡に向かった。
社会科の教科書でお馴染みの「富岡製糸場」はここだったのか.......というところだが、その周辺、昔、栄華を極めたであろう街並み、建物が散見され、それがなかなか面白い。
その中で、一際異彩を放つのがこの展望台だ。
この六角形の展望台を備えている建物は「江原時計店」という店舗だ。昔からの地方都市での「時計店」なるものの存在は、きっと輝かしいものであったのであろうと想像できる。
