先日、3月7日車で大山町の交差点に通りかかって、この建物がなくなっていたのに気付いた。

４年前に LANDship のサイトにのせた「井の頭通りの家」は、未だ健在である。
井の頭通りの「大山町」の交差点にこの家はある。
道路拡幅工事で姿を表したこの家は、その工事が完成した後もそのままの姿をさらしている。壁面は今はやりの落書きで彩られているが、それもまたお似合いである
「井の頭通りの家」
この建物は井の頭通り沿い大山の交差点にある。道路拡幅の工事が進むなか一つポツンと取り残されたように建っている。周りの建て込んだ家々がなくなって、今まで人目にさらされることなかった面が見ることができるようになった。
この家に気がついた時、びっくりするくらい感動した。こんなにかっこいいファサードを目の当たりにすることができるなんて。誰か建築家が設計したわけでもない、なにか恣意的な意図をもって建てたわけでもない。住む人が時間のなかで、いろいろ作ってきた結果として、そこにある。
時間のなかで建物はどう存在していくのか、この建物は一つの解答を示していると考えている。
スチュワート・ブランドは HOW BUILDINGS LEARN の中で「建物は変化する。建物は刻々と成長し、みずから学んでいくものである。」と述べている。(990419 aki)
The House on Inokashira Street
This building sits along Inokashira Street at the Oyama intersection, standing as the last lonely remainder from the construction of wider roads. The former crowd of surrounding houses having evaporated, leaving a side which until would never have been seen. When I first became aware of this house, I was overcome with surprise that it could present such a handsome facade to the eye. This is not something designed by an architect, but nor is it something that resulted from arbitrary design. Its is the cumulative result of the time spent by its inhabitants constructing it over time.
I think this building represents a response to the question of how buildings develop over time. To quote Stewart Brand in _How Buildings Learn_, "Buildings change. Buildings are growing moment by moment, and they learn by themselves."
