先日エントリーした「武器」なる書籍の原書「WEAPONS」の最新版を手に入れてみた。
邦訳された「武器」の原書の出版年は1980年、今から30年以上前となると、現代とはほど遠く……最近の戦争の様変わりからいって「更新」する必要があるのではないか……と考えて、「An International Encyclopedia from 5000 B.C. to the 21st Century」と銘打ってある本書を手に入れてみたのだ。
初めて翻訳本「武器」を原書と照らし合わせたのだ。原書に比してちょっと判型が小さいのはグラフィカルな本書にとってマイナスだが……頁立てから全て原書に完璧に忠実なのに感心した。
この2007年の最新版が旧版と異なるのは、「武器」第７章の「化学兵器,核兵器,生物兵器」の最後、278頁「武器の新しい展開」からが、第８章「21st century conflict 21世紀的対立」という新しい章（278頁〜309頁）が付け加えられているのだ。
